Push Start Battle of the Sounds 2018

We had a great turn out at this years Battle of the Sounds event at new location, Bunjil Place on the 13 Friday 2018. The event was open to artists aged 15 - 25 years, performing any genre of music including local emerging bands, duos, soloists, DJs and producers all in the running to win some fantastic prizes the opportunities.

The night included performances from six local musicians, Sharon Jeikishore, Laurie Smith, The Jukebox, Dhee Wickramasinghe, Monkey Bunz, Daylight Avenue as well as a performance form headlining band, Slowly Slowly.

The winner of this heat will now represent the City of Casey at the FReeZA Push Start Regional Finals.

Congratulations to all performers;

  • 2nd Place – Monkey Bunz

  • 3rd Place – Laurie Smith

  • Crowd Favourite – Monkey Bunz

Casey Creations Creative Arts Competition

Casey Creations is a creative arts competition for young people who live, work or study within the City of Casey. This annual competition showcases the artistic talents of young people.

The competition is split into the following categories:

  • Visual Arts (2D work only)
  • Photography
  • Short Film

There is no theme for the competition, so be creative and show us how talented you are!

Age categories for Visual Arts 2 D and Photography:

  • Junior - Grades 5 and 6 (or age equivalent)

  • Intermediate - Years 7 to 9 (or age equivalent)

  • Senior - Years 10 to 12 (or age equivalent)

Age category for Short Film:

  • 10 – 25 years

How to submit work

  • Entry is FREE!
  • An entry form (526kb) must be attached to the work
  • Terms and conditions (568kb) of entry apply
  • Submit your work and entry form by 5.00 pm on Friday 14 September 2018
  • Entries can be submitted at a City of Casey Youth Information Centre.

Results

All entries are considered by a community judging panel including local artists and young people.

Winners will be notified and will be invited to a special awards ceremony where they will receive their prizes.

Schools on Stage will be held on Thursday 30 August 2018 at Bunjil Place Theatre, hosted by Tim Campbell.

Schools on Stage celebrates the performing arts talents of Casey’s young people, whilst also encouraging them to take part in extra-curricular activities to strengthen their connection to the school community, make new friends and build important skills

The competition has two divisions:

Premier Division – Schools who have staged a full-scale musical production in 2018, have selected two songs to perform in full, as they would appear in the original production.

Open Division – Schools who have not performed a full-scale musical in 2018, have selected a musical production of their choice and nominated one song which they will perform as choral number.

Casey Teenage School Holiday Program – Spring 2018

The Casey Teenage School Holiday Program is for teenagers aged 10 – 17 years and offers fun, age-appropriate activities at reasonable prices. The upcoming Teenage School Holiday Program will run from Monday 24 September – Friday 5 October 2018, with a range of activities including; MCG Tour and Urban Adventure, Royal Melbourne Show, Indoor Sports and High Ropes Course to name a few. Transportation to and from the program is available at designated pick up and drop off points throughout Cranbourne, Narre Warren, Hampton Park, Endeavour Hills and Doveton. Fired up!  Hip Hop Tournament 2018

City of Casey and Replay Dance Productions are excited to announce that Fired Up! Hip Hop Tournament will be held Saturday 20 October 2018 at the new, state-of-the-art theatre, Bunjil Place!

Calling all urban choreography crews who have not won a major competition in the following age groups:

  • Junior (6 - 12 years)
  • Varsity (18 years and under)
  • Open (all ages)
  • Hip Hop Individual Freestyle (under 18 years division and over 18 years division)

Registrations are now open and close Friday 7 September. Unfortunately, late registrations cannot be accepted.

Emergent 2018: VCE Graduate Showcase

In February 2019, City of Casey, Bunjil Place Arts in partnership with Youth Services will present Emergent 2018: VCE Graduate Showcase in the Bunjil Place Studio.  Emergent celebrates the creative achievements and outstanding talent of VCE students within the City of Casey. 

Students currently studying VCE Units 3 & 4 Art, Studio Art, Media, Visual Communication, and Design and Technology (Textiles and Wood Work) in 2018 are eligible to apply to have their work included in the exhibition in 2019. There is no theme to the exhibition and students studying the aforementioned subjects are strongly encouraged to submit the final pieces created for their VCE Unit 3 & 4 subjects.
