Always engage a qualified builder
When undertaking building works on your property it is important that you engage a qualified builder to do the work. Property owners are responsible for works undertaken on their property and by employing a qualified builder, you can avoid any unnecessary extra costs associated with illegal work.
If you're considering carrying out any building works, seek advice from a Registered Building Surveyor or contact the Building Department at Council who can provide you with advice.
Ensure that when you engage a builder they satisfactorily meet the following criteria:
-
Registered
-
Insured
-
Members of the HIA, MBA or the like
-
Qualified
-
Ask for referrals from people they have done work for
Next time you undertake building work on your property, whether it be a simple structure such as a carport, garage or veranda or more substantial work like a dwelling addition, make sure you appoint a qualified builder to do the work.
