Why does the Planning Committee have decision making power?

The Local Government Act 1989 allows Council’s to establish ‘Special Committees’ which have delegated authority to make decisions which are binding on the Council. The City of Casey has one special committee established under s. 86 of the Local Government Act 1989 – the Planning Committee.

In September 2013, Council confirmed the role of the Planning Committee by Instrument of Delegation to exercise Council’s powers, discretions and authorities under the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
