EmailOur First Decade 1994 – 2004 was launched on 15 December 2004, to celebrate the City’s 10th anniversary. The stunning publication boasts 32 pages of full colour images of some of Casey’s most significant achievements, places and people that have guided the City’s development since 1994.
The book is a tribute to some great moments of the last 10 years because it acknowledges many different people, places and events that have contributed to shaping Casey over the past decade.
The publication is a celebration of just how vibrant and diverse the City is, and Council is thrilled to commemorate this historic occasion with the book’s launch.
A great deal of interesting information was submitted for inclusion in the book when Council invited the community to contribute, so the book’s development was a fantastic community effort.
Some of the City of Casey’s great achievements have included hosting the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games torch relay, opening of the Casey ARC (Aquatic and Recreation Centre) in 2001, winning the national title for the Innovation in Local Government Awards in 2001, and officially becoming Victoria’s largest municipality when the population reached 203,636, passing the City of Greater Geelong’s population in 2003.
This year, the City of Casey also signed two Memorandums of Understanding: to officially formalise its Friendship link with Ermera in Timor Leste and for the South Melbourne Cricket Club to make Casey Fields its new home.
